The challenge

Lubbers Pipeline Services, the specialized pipeline department within Lubbers, was approached by one of its customers to offer logistics support in the Danish harbor Esbjerg for the Baltic Pipeline project.

The Baltic Pipe Project is a strategic gas infrastructure project with the goal of creating a new gas supply corridor in the European market. The Baltic Pipe Project will allow transport of gas from Norway to the Danish and Polish markets, as well as to end-users in neighboring countries. At the same time, the Baltic Pipe Project will enable the supply of gas from Poland to the Danish market.

The customer needed an experienced port operator and transport company who could offer the following logistics (pipeline) services: unloading activities, transportation from quay to the storage site and stacking services.

Our solution

Lubbers has its own facility in Esbjerg and the Danish team of Lubbers knows the harbor area very well. Loading and unloading ships requires knowledge of the operation and the proper techniques for lifting and stowing cargo. It was therefore decided to use Danish partner ‘Jutlandia’ for these stevedoring services.

A total of 14 seagoing vessels need to be unloaded in the harbor of Esbjerg in the period 2020-2021. The first vessel was unloaded in February 2020. A total of 17,169 pipes were handled, transported and stacked on 33 storage locations along the pipeline route. The pipes were each 12,30 meter long, had a diameter of 0,92 meter and a weight of 12 Ton.

Eight truck-trailer combinations were used for this project. As always, Lubbers paid a lot of attention to the loading security to make sure the transports were executed in a safe way.

Result

A nice project with a satisfied customer. Lubbers Pipeline Services was able to demonstrate its knowledge and experience.
