Transport & Handling of Railway Equipment

The challenge

A Dutch supplier of railway equipment asked us to move and position 21,5 KM of railway bars, 717 pieces in total. The bars had a length of 30 meters. The loading site was in Amsterdam and offloading site was Amstelveen, only a 15 KM route. The project should take maximum 4 weeks.

Our solution

To be as efficient as possible we decided to use two trucks with triple extendable flatbed trailers. Including the truck, the total length was 36 meters. Each truck carried 15 bars per trip. The trucks drove non-stop between the two sites, which meant that when one was loading the other one was being offloaded. At the delivery site we organised an 80 tons telescopic crane with a spreader bar to lift the cargo. The offloading process was guided by a rigger from Lubbers. A total of 48 transports were carried out.
