Transport of heavy oversized load

The challenge

A client of ours asked us to move an oversized load from Germany to Belgium. The material was not waterproof and due to the bad weather conditions the cargo needed to be sealed. When packed, the box had a size of 6.15 m x 6.15 m x 0.57 m, with a weight of 4.5 tons. The door, however, had a size of 4.97 m x 5.19 m. If the box would be placed in a standard flat position on a trailer, we would not be able to move it through the door.

The solution

Our engineers decided to move the box with a support frame. A support frame can lift the box in a more vertical position. As a result the box was less wide and could be moved through the door. Once it was outside, the box had to be reloaded due to the permitted transport size. A crane assisted during this process and thus we were able to ‘bring back’ the measurements too: 16.5m x 5.6m x 4.35m.

The result

By using the right knowledge, experience and equipment, this project was executed successfully. The box was transported that same night from Germany to Antwerp and correctly delivered.
